I am the scorching sun of summer,
The moonlit night of winter.
I am the sun of the day;
If I don’t rise, the home is in darkness.
Whoever I am, I am myself—
Because I am a father.
Sometimes warm, sometimes cold,
Sometimes laughing, sometimes silent,
I am also a servant of God.
I am the shade over my children’s joys,
The fatigue of the day weighs heavily on my shoulders.
In this unknown season of desires,
I stand barefoot,
Because I am a father.
Sleep hides secretly from me,
I am startled by the slightest sound of my children at night.
Alert at every step, every breath, every movement,
Even asleep, I am awake—
Because I am a father.
Their tomorrow is more precious than the sleep of my eyes,
Their smile greater than my exhaustion.
I am the shade
That shields them from every sun and cold in their world.
I am—I do not tire, I do not bend,
Because I am a father.
