आज़ाद हूँ मैं,

मगर मेरी आज़ादी नहीं।

घायल हूँ मैं,

मगर मेरी कोई दवा नहीं।

जिस तरह मुझे लूटा सियासतदानों ने,

छीन ली गई मेरे बच्चों की हँसी

वक़्त के हुक्मरानों ने।

ना कोई बज़्म सजाते हैं,

ना कोई शऊर अपनाते हैं —

कभी फ़सादी कहकर,

कभी आतंकवादी बताकर,

कभी झूठी दुहाई देकर

मेरा काम तमाम करते हैं।

फिर भी लोग मुझसे पूछते हैं —

“कैसी जन्नत है जो जान माँगती है,

पानी कम, ख़ून ज़्यादा माँगती है?”

मेरी ज़मीं लहू से तर-ब-तर है,

भूख से मेरे बच्चे मरते हैं।

माँ-बाप जुदा हो जाते हैं,

और मासूम निगाहें

रोटी माँगती हैं —

तो उन्हें गोलियाँ मिलती हैं।

लोग कहते हैं मैं जन्नत-सी हूर हूँ,

मगर मोहब्बत के लिए

सदियों से तरसी हूँ मैं।

सब जुल्म सहकर भी

मुझसे यही पूछा जाता है —

“कैसी जन्नत है जो जान माँगती है,

पानी कम, ख़ून ज़्यादा माँगती है?”

I am free

But not my freedom

I am injured

But i don't have any medicine

Is robbed

The way political leaders have told me

Took away my children's freedom

Time spouses

No bajam adorn

No one adopt

Sometimes saying fuss

Sometimes called terrorist

Never give a false cry

Do all the work

Still people call me

What is heaven like

Water demands less blood

I am satisfied with blood

My children die of hunger

Separating mother father

Hungry baby my bag is empty

You get bullets when you ask for bread

People say I am like heaven

But i always love love

It is my pleasure to say all the sufferings too
