फिल्मी दुनिया के इस किंग ने एक इंटरव्यू में अपने स्ट्रगल के दिनों को याद किया था और बताया था कि कैसे उनका बचपन संघर्षों में बीता।
रजनीकांत, बोमन ईरानी, नवाजुद्दीन सिद्दीकी जैसे कई एक्टर्स हैं जो फिलहाल इंडियन फिल्म इंडस्ट्री पर राज कर रहे हैं लेकिन एक समय ऐसा भी था इन्होंने छोटी-मोटी नौकरियां की...साधारण से परिवार के थे स्ट्रगल के अलावा दूसरा रास्ता भी नहीं था. इन्हीं में एक ऐसा एक्टर भी रहा जो आज तो सुपरस्टार बन चुका है लेकिन कभी सड़क पर सोकर भी रात गुजारी है.
इस सुपरस्टार की नेटवर्थ 5000 करोड़ रुपये से ज्यादा है लेकिन एक समय वह सड़क पर भी सोने को मजबूर रहे हैं. वहीं अब उनके पास आलीशान बंगला है और अगर कहीं बाहर चले भी जाएं तो उन्हें अपने घर का मेहमान बनाने के लिए लोगों की लाइन लग जाएगी. यह कोई और नहीं बल्कि शाहरुख खान हैं।
फिल्मफेयर के साथ एक इंटरव्यू में शाहरुख खान ने अपने उन दिनों को याद किया जब फीस ना भर पाने की वजह से उन्हें स्कूल से करीब करीब निकाल ही दिया गया था और कहा था, “मुझे पैसे के बारे में बात करने से नफरत है. मैंने एक एम्पायर बनाया है लेकिन मैं पैसे के बारे में बात नहीं कर सकता. मेरे लोगों ने मुझे बताया कि अगर मैंने पैसे मांगे होते तो यह एम्पायर 10 गुना बड़ा होता. लेकिन मुझे पता है, अगर मैंने पैसे मांगे होते तो यह 10 गुना छोटा होता. यह ईगो जैसा लग सकता है लेकिन राजा ऐसी बातें पूछा नहीं करते. भले ही मीडिया मुझे राजा कहे मैं इस पर यकीन करता हूं और इसीलिए मैं नहीं पूछता. गरीब राजा भी कभी नहीं पूछेगा. अगर लोग उससे कुछ मांगें तो वह अपना मांस और खून दे देगा।"
उन्होंने आगे कहा, “ मैं एक गरीब परिवार से था. मैंने सबसे बुरा दौर देखा है. मेरे पिता मर रहे थे और हम महंगे इंजेक्शन नहीं खरीद सकते थे. मेरी मौसी उन्हें लंदन से भेजती थीं लेकिन अगर कोर्स 20 इंजेक्शन का था तो हम केवल आठ ही ले पाए. मैं ऐसी जगह से आया हूं जहां खाने को कम था. मैंने पानी वाली दाल खाई और सर्वाइव किया. मुझे स्कूल से लेटर भेजकर धमकी दी गई कि मेरी फीस नहीं भरने पर मुझे बाहर निकाल दिया जाएगा. मां और पिताजी गद्दों के नीचे पड़े पैसे इकट्ठा करते थे और मेरी पढ़ाई का खर्च उठाते थे. क्योंकि मैंने बहुत गरीबी देखी है इसलिए मुझे पैसे की लालसा नहीं है. मैं यह सब एक ही बार में खर्च कर सकता हूं. इस बात पर मेरी पत्नी मुझे डांटती है. मैं बिना सोचे-समझे करोड़ों रुपये खर्च कर देता हूं - फिल्मों के लिए, चैरिटी के लिए. तुम पैसे मांगो और मैं तुम्हें दे दूंगा."
शाहरुख ने उस समय को भी याद किया जब उन्हें घर से निकाल दिया गया था क्योंकि उनके पास किराया देने के लिए पैसे नहीं थे और उन्हें सड़कों पर सोना पड़ता था. उन्होंने कहा, "बस एक ही डर है कि मेरे बच्चे कभी बिना घर के न रहें. अगर आपके पास घर और एजुकेशन है तो दुनिया आपके कदमों में है. अगर आपके पास नौकरी और पैसा नहीं है तो कम से कम आपके पास सोने और रोने के लिए छत तो होगी. मैं सड़कों पर सोया हूं. कई बार मुझे मेरे घर से बाहर निकाल दिया गया क्योंकि हम किराया नहीं दे सके. मैं दो बार सड़क पर आ चुका हूं।

He further said, “I was from a poor family. I have seen the worst phase. My father was dying and we could not afford expensive injections. My aunt used to send them from London but if the course was of 20 injections, we could take only eight. I have come from a place where there was less to eat. I ate watery dal and survived. I was sent a letter from the school threatening that I would be thrown out if I did not pay my fees. Mother and father used to collect the money lying under the mattresses and bear the expenses of my education. Because I have seen a lot of poverty, I have no desire for money. I can spend it all at once. My wife scolds me for this. I spend crores of rupees without thinking - for films, for charity. You ask for money and I will give it to you."
Shahrukh also recalled the time when he was thrown out of the house because he did not have money to pay the rent and had to sleep on the streets. He said, "There is only one fear that my children will never remain without a home. If you have a home and education then the world is at your feet. If you do not have a job and money then at least you have somewhere to sleep and cry. There must be a roof over it. I have slept on the streets. Many times I have been thrown out of my house because we could not pay the rent. I have been on the streets twice.
